It’s been a great day today, with clear blue sky and sunshine. It is a lot milder that I expected – maybe I won’t need my thermals after all!
We had our first vocational day today. I was escorted by two charming Rotarians, both retired dentists, Ray and Al. First, we visited an orthodontic practice in Medicine Hat (I love the name of this town!!). Keith runs a state-of-the-art orthodontic practice, with all the latest equipment – very impressive. We then joined with the rest of the GSE team to meet the Mayor at the City Hall, before going to Medicine Hat College for lunch. Both the Mayor and the Principal of the College are members of Rotary. We were given a very warm welcome in both these places. After lunch, we split up again to pursue our vocational visits. I went to the Medicine Hat Medical Clinic, where the oral health team is based. We had a very interesting discussion with Iris and her colleagues about our Scottish Childsmile initiative and their programme for “Seniors”. It seems that oral health of vulnerable groups can be a challenge, no matter where in the world you go!!
Now we are having a bit of “down time” before going to the Rotary meeting this evening - the three Medicine Hat groups are combining for a dinner tonight, where we will make our first team presentation.
Thanks to everyone who made our day so memorable.
