I think that I am now going to be the slow blogger of the group, however my excuse is that since arriving in Medicine Hat I have been working very hard!!
Firstly I would like to say that our trip over went very smoothly, while our welcoming committee was a real treat!! We have all been so well looked after by our hosts and I would like to say a big thank to Sharla and Wayne who have taken good care of Maura and myself whilst in Medicine Hat.
So what have I been up to???? Well I started both my vocational days by reporting to the OR (or as we would say in Scotland the operating theatres) at 645 am. Yes you read right 645am!!! Who said this was a holiday!! On Monday I spent the full day in the theatre complex observing how it is run, talking to the staff and gaining plenty of experience. I finished the day at 4pm, popped home (no not Scotland) for a quick change, and went to the evening Rotary Club. Here I had a lovely meal and as a group we gave our first Canadian presentation. After spending the evening there it was home to bed to start the next day bright and early!!
Today I was again in the OR in the morning, where I got to ask more questions and look a bit deeper after reflecting on the day before. In the afternoon I was in the ER (I am starting to sound like a local!!). I got to see how the department was organised and see how patients can be organised to go straight to theatre.
Even though this is my first experience within the theatre environment in Canada I can see plenty of differences in how the departments are run, whilst noticing the positive and negatives in both settings. Needless to say I already have plenty to take home!!
Tonight we had a free night and Maura and myself had a very enjoyable evening. I wont say any more as Maura has already reported on this.
So to end my first Canadian blog I would like to sign out by saying hello to all back home, especially Colin (I am missing him already!!!) however I am having a really great time!!! Until the next time..........
